Announcing USGBC Carolinas' 2023 Individual Community Leader Award Recipients

USGBC Carolinas is pleased to announce the winners of our 2023 Individual Community Impact Awards. These honorees are nominated by our members and selected by the USGBC Carolinas Market Leadership Advisory Board to recognize community members who have gone above and beyond in their support of USGBC and advancing green building in North and South Carolina.

The award recipients below will be honored at our annual Green Gala Awards Event, which will take place on Thursday, October 26th at The Terrace at Cedar Hill in Charlotte. This event will also include the announcement of which of our outstanding finalists have won Community Leader Project Awards. You can learn more about the event and register here.

 

In recognition of long-time impact in the Carolinas green building community

Donald Green is a leader in sustainable design and has embodied the mission and vision of USGBC for over 20 years. A LEED Accredited professional since 2002, he holds leadership positions with numerous organizations, working tirelessly to set high standards and advocate for a sustainable built environment, responsible community growth, and addressing climate change. Through consistent work in sustainable architecture, Donald has fostered crucial partnerships with like-minded people and organizations, advancing the USGBC and architectural professionals as problem-solvers and leaders.


Some of his most notable achievements include working to implement the City of Charlotte’s new Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP), and most recently leading the Buildings Working Group to aid the City’s Office of Sustainability in the development of the Power Down the Crown webpage. These efforts garnered Donald recognition by the City of Charlotte Mayor, Vi Lyles, for his service.

 

In recognition of long-time impact in the Carolinas green building community

Linda Sorrento, FASID, LEED Fellow, IIDA, is currently serving as acting Chief Operations Officer of mindful MATERIALS Inc. She is a design industry strategist and interior environments futurist. Her deep concern for how interior environments impact human health and performance has informed every facet of Linda’s career as an interior designer, educator, and advocate of healthy, safe, and livable environments.


As Acting COO, she drives sustainable change for mindful MATERIALS. mindful MATERIALS, Inc. is dedicated to reducing, and ultimately reversing, the embodied impacts of the built environment through our collective material choices. mM furthers its mission through a global cross-sector collaboration hub, convening to share learning and drive informed decisions around an industry-aligned, digitized Common Materials Framework (CFM) for health, sustainability, and resilience.


Linda has served in leadership roles for the Healthy Building Network, AIA Materials Knowledge Working Group, mindful MATERIALS, Health in Buildings Roundtable Scholars Program, ASID Climate, Health, Equity Committee, and ASID Design IMPACT Network. She holds ASID’s Design Luminary Award and mindful MATERIALS Visionary Leadership Award, among many other honors.


Linda has been a steadfast supporter of the sustainability sector, USGBC, and the USGBC Carolinas community. Her unique perspective, insight and experience apply a human-centered and sustainability-driven mindset that is unmatched. She is an expert in her field, a thoughtful collaborator, and a pleasure to know.
