Jeff Austin, Founder RExplore LLC

In recognition of long time impact in the Carolinas green building community

Jeff has been the heart and soul of Charlotte sustainability efforts for the past 20 years. Trained as an architect, he has a deep understanding of how people and systems are connected and how they work together to become stronger and more sustainable. This unique ability to appreciate and see connections has been an essential feature of his career and has been integral to his success.

While leading real estate sustainability for Wachovia/Wells Fargo, he created the company’s first greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal and first LEED strategy and certification program. He also collaborated with key executives to develop the company's 100% Renewable Energy strategy and served as the Sustainability Executive for a 1.4 million square foot LEED Platinum office tower in Uptown Charlotte.

In 2007, in the early days of sustainability initiatives in Charlotte, he was one of two corporate sustainability visionaries behind what would eventually become the non-profit organization Envision Charlotte. He also was one of three sustainability executives that created the Sustainability Lunch Bunch, a networking group of sustainability professionals which started with less than ten members in 2008 and has since grown to more than 120 members. Jeff most certainly deserves this recognition, as his importance to the sustainability community here in the Charlotte region cannot be overstated!
